ONE-ON-ONE MENTORSHIP

Depending on the experience of the Reading Ways Site Leader, we suggest weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly conferences.

Building instructional leadership capacity is challenging and takes time. Some larger districts have teams of teacher leaders or coaches and the resources to develop in-service training for these teams. Smaller districts also need to support their instructional leaders, but this can be difficult to provide. New instructional leaders or coaches may want to debrief their challenges with knowledgeable colleagues, but it might be easier with experts who are not imbedded in the social and professional life of the school. Reading Ways’ implementation conferences ensure that your team is supported every step of the way as they try new coaching strategies and push new instructional ideas. Depending on the experience of the Reading Ways Site Leader, we suggest weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly conferences. Between and during meetings, we help new coaches establish realistic goals for their plans, vet materials they want to use, and provide guidance when “tricky” coaching situations arise. Although we offer in-person mentorship, we have found that the use of video allows us to reduce travel times and save your school money (while at the same time limiting our carbon footprint).

Each coach we work sets personal goals for skill development in the following areas:

  • Literacy Content Knowledge
  • Adult Learning
  • School Reform
  • Professional Learning
  • Facilitative Leadership
  • Roles of Literacy Professionals
  • Coaching Methods
